How to permanently filter a smart dropdown?

If field definition rules to apply filter are used on smart dropdowns, this works very well for the registration. But on inline edits, the filter is gone. Is there a way to make sure the filter is also there on inline edits? Or is it just a bug?

I don't know why I didn't see that before, but the confiforms field macro offer the option to filter selections, which also works perfectly well with inline edits.
