I can't find PDFs on pages, but they are showing up in my search?

Amelia Parnell March 13, 2025

Our company is currently changing department names and therefore we are going through all of our confluence pages to rename them to reflect the new naming convention.

When searching for "team name" it is showing over 100 PDFs with reference to the the old team name. I am following the trail to the page it is showing as appearing in but the PDF isn't there? The same PDF is showing up multiple times in this search, all with the same name but all showing as different upload dates. It is saying it appears on multiple pages but when I go to the actual pages it isn't there. How can I find them to amend/remove them please?

Hi @Amelia Parnell

A file can be attached to the page without being visible on that page. That's becasue even if you delete a file (or an image) when in the edit mode, it still remains attached.

This is how you may end up with multiple versions: Person A deletes PDF1 from a page and attaches PDF2, Person B deletes PDF2 and attaches PDF3...

But PDF1 and PDF2 will remain attached to the page.

Here's how to trace them down.

Three dots menu, Attachments, click files and you'll see all files attached to that page. You can delete unused attachments from that interface.
