I get this error when starting Confluence

Neither the JAVA_HOME nor the JRE_HOME environment variable

Hi @Glenn Eaton Welcome to the Atlassian community. Seems like the JAVA_HOME or JRE_HOME environment variables have not been set in your env. Can you please confirm if you are using Windows or Linux platform ?

I'm on Linux:

NAME="Oracle Linux Server"
VERSION="7.9"

Please refer this article You will need to install JDK and set the $JAVA_HOME environment variable.
You can set this environment variable in your user account's 'profile' file. Alternatively, you can set this after installing Confluence, by defining this path in your Confluence installation's setenv.sh file
