I have been given access to edit this page but the edit button has not appeared for us to edit the page.

Hi @Rajiv Rampersad Welcome to Community.

Have you checked your space permissions? This discussion seems to indicate that the "add" permissions for the space (the ability to create new pages) over rides any edit permissions added at the page level.
