Atlassian Marketplace had some temporary problems with generating trials for any plugin.

It should be fixed by now.

The error I'm getting is "This Site is Down at the Moment.  Grab a snack - we'll be back before you know it".  This does not really help debug the problem...

Nope, it doesn't. But I can download the addon, so I'm not sure what's happening there

I'm guessing you mean the addon, which works fine for me.  You'll need to debug what is wrong with your connection to the site.  Maybe start with the symptoms and/or error message you get.
