We want all of our images for a document on one page so we can change them there and they'll update in all the other pages, which, according to the way we thought Confluence worked, is what was supposed to happen. But it doesn't. Even if you replace the image with one with the same name, the linked version stays the same. Because it links down to the previous version of that image. Is there any way to use Confluence the way we want to and update documents that contain an instance of an image by updating our image pages? I sure hope so, or we're sunk.
Thanks!!
Hi Rodrigo,
We have v. 5.9.1.
I uploaded an image to a page using copy/paste. I checked to make sure it created an attachment, because that procedure has inconsistent results, but always creates an attachment when pasted from outside Confluence. Then I copied and pasted from the image page to a document page, which did not create an attachment.

Then I used the Copy Page Tree plug-in to copy this tree to another space. I was trying to confirm that the pictures in the second space pointed back to the original image page. Then in my testing, I tried several methods. (1) I tried deleting the original picture and pasting in another with the same name and (2) I just pasted one with the same name in and replaced the original. In both cases, in the original document page and the copied one in the new space, the image didn’t change.
I ended up drilling down on the attachment page of the original image page (in the first space), and determined that the images on both document pages were instances of an earlier version of the picture. Sure enough, when I deleted that earlier version, I got broken links on both document pages. So how do I ensure my pictures are linked to the latest version of the image?

Thanks for any help!!

Hi Susan,
I've just tested this functionality and I wasn't able to replicate on a Confluence 5.8.17 version. I've created 2 pages.
One containing the image and the other a link to the image in the first page. I've selected Insert files and Images -> search on other pages and selected the first page containing the image. The saved the page and the image was rendered. Then I've uploaded a different image using the same name in the first page and the image was updated in the second page correctly.
May I know the exact steps you are using to replicate this behavior? Which is the confluence version?
Cheers,
Rodrigo
