Is it possible to integrate an Atlassian MCP remote server with a JavaScript-based Next.js backend?

I'm currently using the MCP server implementation from Sooperset - mcp-atlassian  in my project, and it's working well with my JavaScript-based Next.js backend. However, I'm curious whether it's possible to connect directly to the official Atlassian MCP remote server instead. I'd like to understand the compatibility, authentication requirements, and any limitations when integrating the official server with a custom backend.
