Is it possible to use the 'Create from Template' button on a global template?

I'm trying to create a global template with a button to create a new child page from a second global template using 'Create from Template' macro but the Template name field is empty (see screen grab below)

Everything is find if I create the template within a space so I'm wondering is it possible to use the macro in the context of a global template?

(I should also mention I am the system admin so should have enough privileges)

May have found a worksround for this.

1. Create new template within a space
2. Add the 'Create from Template' macro for the page you wish to create
3. Right click on the button and copy it
4. Open the global template
5. Paste the button in where you'd like it in the page
6. Save the global template
7. Delete the temporary space template created in step 1
