I am curious to see how Confluence determines what information is sent out in the Recommended Updates emails. Is the inforamtion in the email all the same, or does it send out information based on a user privileges? I guess what I am asking is, is the inforamtion in the email that goes out only information that users can see, or are they seeing restricted content, but not able to drill into it?
It varies for different users - "Confluence sends a regular email report to subscribers, containing the top content that is relevant to the person receiving the message" as per docs!
Definitely determined by permissions. You see only what you can!
I'm not 100% sure what triggers a notification, but since upgrading to 4.2, we've seem to be getting ones we weren't getting before. I don;t know if the following helps, but I've just added these notes and instructions to our wiki so that users know how to change the current setting. Feel free to add it to yours. :)
Notifications and Recommendations
The wiki will send you updates and notifications of changes to pages you are assocciated with. This might be because you created or edited the page; you might have added yourself as a Watcher or been added by someone else. You will also get them if you comment on a page. The type of notification you receive and it's regularity can be changed from your user profile.
