Is there XSLT available to migrate a 5.1 export to import into 6.4?

We have an old 5.1 Confluence (no longer managed, not upgradable) that we have to export data from to insert into a new 6.4 Confluence (different manager). We tried a straight export->import but things must have changed enough that this doesn't work.

Is there an XSLT available to modify the 5.1 export so that 6.4 can ingest?

For clarification:

We don't control the Confluence installation. The people hosting the 5.1 version are shutting it down (not upgrading) and the host we're moving to is running 6.4.

Hi Arthur,

I do not know of a utility that will convert an XML back-up from Confluence 5.1 so that a Confluence 6.4 instance can import it. There have been many database changes between the versions, that's why the import won't work.

When you say you have to export data from the Confluence 5.1 to the Confluence 6.4 instance, do you mean spaces, pages or an entire instance? A complete XML backup of the instance will overwrite the destination instance, so I suspect you will need to make space by space XML back-ups and import those one at a time.

The workaround is to spin up a temporary Confluence 5.1 and upgrade it, then export the spaces. I understand you mentioned the old instance is not upgradable but perhaps a test instance would be upgradable. Please see the workaround details at: Restoring a Space

Building an XSLT to do that is going to be 1,000 times more complex than upgrading a 5.1 install via the recommended and supported routes.

What makes you say it is "not upgradable"?  I have to seriously question that because today, my colleague and I took a 5.1 installation to 6.4, three times (errors down to hardware and add-ons), so I know it's completely possible.

Ok, then you should grab a backup of the 5.1, migrate it on to a temporary development server, upgrade it to 6.4, then hand your new hosts an import.  (Or, better, get them to do the upgrade, but I'm guessing that's not an option)
