This account has been created after syncing atlassian with google workspace and this caused the pre-existing account with the same email to have "+atlassian_conflict" in its email. so we are wondering if we can just remove the new account so we can change back the email linked with the pre-existing account to its email address.
The User account synced from Google is the managed one and the user has to log in using Google in order to access the site.
Your approach should work in order to sync the user with the right email address.
