Is there a way to paginate Confluence pages to make it printer friendly?

Since Confluence pages are dependent on the screen's resolution, is there a solution to making consistently sized (and numbered, ideally) pages? As an extension, could headers/footers be implemented to the pages?

Manually creating and spacing out sections seem like an ineffective and tedious solution as the formatting will shift upon editing. Please advise

Hi Victor,

There are two ways I am aware of to paginate Confluence pages. Hope one of them works for you!

  • Export to PDF, where the settings help you customize the page height, width, page numbers, headers and footers etc... You can do so by navigating to Settings > General Configuration > PDF Layout or Space Tools > Content Tools > Export > PDF. In this case, the page break is based on the settings you apply in your PDF export configuration.
For more details about PDF Export settings, please refer to https://confluence.atlassian.com/doc/customize-exports-to-pdf-190480945.html.
  • Create a 'page break' user macro and use it wherever you find a logical break to any page. You can do this by navigating to the Admin page and using the 'Create a User macro' option. Here, you can define the required parameters and once you have this macro defined, you will be able to use it wherever required in your Confluence page.
But, in this case, if your Confluence page is too long (>100 pages), it might get laborious after a point.
To insert page numbers, footer and header, configure PDF export settings as mentioned in the previous option.
For more details about how to create this macro, please refer to https://confluence.atlassian.com/confkb/how-to-create-a-page-break-function-in-confluence-to-control-pagination-in-pdf-exports-735943076.html.

Note: To use any of the options mentioned, you need Admin credentials. For PDF export, if you do not have Confluence Admin credentials, you may use your own Space Admin credentials.

Hope this helps!

Thanks

Sireesha
