Hi Support Team,
I've encountered an issue with Confluence page links.
After creating a page, I copied the URL from the browser to mention it elsewhere. However, when I click this link, instead of opening the page, it redirects me to a "Create Page" screen.
Here’s the link I copied after creating the page:
https://confluence.moscow.alfaintra.net/display/ADIR/%5BPremiddle%5D+education-view-api
However, the correct format that works is:
https://confluence.moscow.alfaintra.net/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=2255491420
This issue happens occasionally, but I don’t know the exact steps to reproduce it. Maybe this happens only with the pages with working process attached.
Could you help me understand why this happens and how to avoid it?
Thanks in advance!
I think the issue is that @Daria Pavlova must be running Confluence on-prem, on Data Center.
Daria, can you tell us what version of Confluence you are on? It might be in the Footer of the page, like here:
Cloud does not allow special characters in URLs like in "%5BPremiddle%5D" (which appear as [Premiddle] on her page).
That would also explain why there's no page ID in the link.
I don't have a DC instance handy that I can mess with, but I believe the issue is with those special characters in the URL that are somehow triggering/redirecting to a Create Page.
I vaguely remember in old wiki markup, you could create a link to a page that doesn't yet exist, by entering it as [Page to be created], and then when people clicked that link, a page would pop up prompting them to create it.
I think maybe the brackets in your page title may be causing this bug to recur.
Hello @Darryl Lee ! Thanks for the detailed info.
the version of confluence is 7.19.30.
I will try to reproduce the issue according to your insights.

@Daria Pavlova Have you tried using the link icon on the editor toolbar to insert the link to the page to see if this gives you a different result? You can simply select the page in the dialog that opens (or start typing the name of the page until it appears to select) to insert the link.

Hi @Daria Pavlova and welcome to the Community.
It's weird because wherever I see the 'viewpage.action' link, it's always a blank page opened in the edit mode.
For example:
https://MYSITE.atlassian.net/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=106856454 results in 404
Having said that, your first link is missing the page ID
This is what the working URL looks like on my Confluence.
https://MYSITE/wiki/spaces/SPACENAME/pages/106856454/The+Book
Unless it's different on Confluence free...

Hi, Kristian!
Actually the issue is on our corporate wiki.
Maybe there are different configuration but the format https://MYSITE/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=1014009091 is exactly how the links work here.
