Link in whiteboard opens in a new tab

Those new to the Atlassian Community have posted less than three times. Give them a warm welcome!
While making a whiteboard and adding a link to another confluence page, the page opens already in a new tab, even though there is a button "Open in new tab". Is this something that can be changed? Or is this the behaviour that is expected or wanted? I would rather see a button to either change if it would open in a new tab or not. Thanks in advance :)
