Make image location default to left margin

When I insert an image it defaults to the center of the page. I have to click the icon to make it left aligned. Any way to change the default? Does it have to do with columns?

Hi @Ken Jacobs welcome to the Atlassian community.

To directly answer your question: there is currently no built-in setting within Confluence to change the default image alignment from center to left. Each time you insert an image, you have to manually click the alignment icon to set it to left.

With columns? >> If you insert an image into a column, it will align within that column. So, if you have a single-column layout, it centers on the page. If you have a two-column layout and insert it into the left column, it will center within that left column. You'd still need to manually adjust it to left within that column if you wanted it flush with the left edge of the column.

Please also check some of these Marketplace apps.

Some workarounds, I tend to follow:

  • You can insert a "Layout" (multi-column section) onto your page and place images within the columns. This gives you more control over the horizontal space an image occupies.
  • Using Keyboard Shortcuts.
  • You can insert a "Layout" (multi-column section) onto your page and place images within the columns.
