Metadata Overview (Macro) Table not properly sorting by field values.

Jacob Faller May 13, 2025

Context:

I created a confluence page that has many sub-pages (descendants). Each sub-page contains metadata defined in a metadata set, which was created and saved in this particular confluence space. To facilitate an easy overview of all sub-page metadata (for example to check which sub-pages still need attention --> which ones are not filled in all the way), I have added a metadata overview macro to the parent page. This is displayed as a table with each column representing a metadata type and each row containing the respective metadata value (if it has already been filled in).

This parent page (currently) contains 95 sub-pages, so the metadata overview is quite large, and does not display all sub-pages and their metadata; This results in 5 pages worth of metadata overview table. (Not sure if this is relevant, but I of course would like the sorting to happen to all 95 sub-pages displayed in the metadata overview, not just the current page of the metadata overview)

Problem:

I have now noticed that the metadata overview table does not appear to be consistently sorting data properly (or at least I don't understand by which parameters it is sorting the data), which of course makes the whole Idea of the macro a bit obsolete, as I cant rely on sorting/grouping of metadata values to get an easy overview. To visualize this, I have attached a screenshot to demonstrate what I mean.

In the screenshots I have chosen the "Application Owner" column, which contains the person that is responsible for the respective sub-page. I have highlighted a discrepancy in the sorting in the red boxes; As you can see, the sorting seems to be mostly working at the top, as its sorts the two different "Wim"s, but with "Tom V." it becomes clear that something is wrong, as there are other names between the two occurrences. Additionally I know without a doubt, that this "Tom V." is also the application owner of more than just those two pages, so there should be several more entries of his name. (And this is just one occurrence of this, there are many more examples, and across all columns)

The column i am referring to in the metadata overview macro:

Thank you in advance for your time and help!

Jacob
