Moving from Confluence 3.3.1 server to Confluence cloud

Edmund Woo August 14, 2020

HI All,

I decided to ask the community for support first before bothering tech support with this since it pertains to a really old version of Confluence. I"m grateful for having the community here to help.

The short of it: I am running Confluence 3.3.1 server and I want to migrate everything in it to Confluence Cloud.

The long of it: I'm currently running Confluence 3.3.1 on a stand alone computer at home on Windows 7. I run the apache service whenever I need access to Confluence. Recently I started looking into  moving it to Confluence cloud in case I was not available to start up the service on my computer (and troubleshoot any issues) and my wife still needs access to the information. But the requirements for cloud migration says it can only migrate from version 5.14 or later.

So do I need to follow the upgrade path from 3.3.1 to 3.5.17 to 5.03 to 5.14 or 7.x before I can migrate everything over to Confluence cloud? I do have a separate windows 10 machine I can create a test environment for rather than working on the live system. If I have to do the upgrade path, is it possible to just install a fresh version of 3.5 or 5.14 and just do a restore or import of the existing dbase backup/export of 3.3.1?

Or is there a easier way by creating some sort of export, and import it into the cloud? I know nothing is ever that simple, but I want to hear what the experts have to say.

I seem to recall hearing a long time ago that the dbase format is different in the later versions than the older versions? And I have to convert the dbase into a different format or something? I don't have the foggiest idea as to how to do that if I need to.

I know I might be asking a loaded question, but I wanted to  start assessing what it's going to entail. Please let me know if there's any more information you need.

Thanks in advanced.
