New User in the group and permissions

Tamari Janelidze June 30, 2019

Hello,   my question might be basic, but I wanted to make sure.

The question is about adding a new user to already defined group of users. If I add a new user to a group, does it guarantee that the user will get access to the same pages, where the group has the access? And will this user receive all the notification email as well?  Or should I set the permission manually anyway?

And another question is if I add a user into a group that has access to specific pages, can I anyway apply to this user a restriction to view one of the pages.

Thanks in advance!

Hi @Tamari Janelidze ,

as soon as a user becomes a member of a group, all permissions and restrictions applied to that group will apply to the user too, unless you specifically give different rights to that user.

The good practice in Confluence rights management is to grant/restrict permissions to groups rather than users, as users rights should be defined by the groups they belong to. Granting individual permissions will not be manageable in the long term.

You can also apply specific restrictions to a user, even if he is part of a group of course.

Let me know if this helps,

Hi @Alexis Robert

Thanks for the answer.  That helped a lot!!.

 - You can also apply specific restrictions to a user, even if he is part of a group of course

Does this mean that I can restrict a user to view a page even if he belongs to a group that can view this page?  and if yes, could you please give me a hint how to do so?
