Open links in a new tab

I recently enabled the dark feature that adds an "Open link in a new tab/window" check box to the "Insert Link" dialog. However, it seems that every time you edit the page containing that link, it resets to unchecked.

Is this a bug, or the intended design?

Unfortunately, this cannot be done easily, take a look at How to force links to open in a new window
