Option to re-position "file browser" in "Attachment" macro

Babu Ganesan December 28, 2021

The default "Attachment" macro seems to have the "file uploader" (or) "file browser" option below the "File List" table. Is there a way to re-position that to either side of the "File List" table.

If the "File List" is lengthy, user has to scroll all the way down to choose the "upload" option

Hi @Babu Ganesan, welcome to the Atlassian Community.

Unfortunately, there is no option today for relocating the "Upload" feature for the Attachment macro in Confluence.

However, there is a crude workaround you could try: use two Attachment macros:

  1. Configure the first one to have a "Filename pattern" that will never match (for example: abc.xyz), and check the "Allow upload" box.
  2. Configure the second one as usual.

This will put an Upload box above the second macro. You'll also see an extra attachment list header -- that's the "crude" aspect of this workaround.

There will also be an optional upload box at the bottom of the list, depending on whether you check the "Allow upload" box in the configuration of the second macro.

A few other thoughts:

  • If users are confused that they don't see an Upload box, perhaps add text (like an Info macro) to remind them to scroll to the bottom to upload a file.
  • When viewing a page, the three-dots menu provides access to Attachments, where they can also be added. Again, a reminder on the page (or other user training) can help.
  • This would make a good Product Suggestion, which you can submit here. If you do, please post the link here so others can vote for it.

@Babu Ganesan: your question appears to relate to Confluence Cloud. But the link you provided for the suggestion was for CONFSERVER, which is for Confluence Server and Data Center, rather than Confluence Cloud (CONFCLOUD).

@Mykenna Cepek Thanks for correcting.
