Permissions for inline comment resolution

Andy McAleer August 16, 2018

Comrades,

Can I set permissions so only admins can resolve or delete inline comments? Specifically...

Restricting resolves. Is it possible to control the Resolve link/button that's displayed in inline comments by either:

  • Displaying it only for admins?
  • Preventing any action when it's clicked by non-admin users?
  • Doing some other wizardry?

Restricting deletes. I see the Delete comments permission, which I assume covers inline comments as well as the page-level comments at the bottom of a page. Am I right?

Hello Andy!
Thanks for asking here with the community!
Currently, in-line comments do not have restrictions to them. The viewing restriction has been filed as a Feature Request but was not implemented:

CONFSERVER-40874

Currently, inline comments do not have settings pointing to restrictions and user permissions. They work great for open communication and collaboration between your users everywhere.
There is a third-party add-on that does have a similiar behaviour and also have permissions:

Talk - Advanced inline comments

Let us know if this helps your case!

Thank you for confirming, @Diego. This is very helpful.

I like the 'keep things open' message. Long term, that's always for the best.

It was just an idea on a current project of mine to impose restrictions of this type (on inline comments) but it wasn't a formal, mandatory requirement - just an idea - and my users will be fine without that feature. So I'm good. If I really need it in the future, there's always that third-party solution you mention.

Thanks again.
