Please can you clarify "10. NFS mounts are not supported on Linux operating systems due to Lucene requirements."? Does this mean that we cannot host Confluence on a Linux server if we intend to store document files on a Samba share?

It's very clear - you are not supported if you place the data directory on an NFS mount.

Technically, there are good reasons - Lucene needs a fast stable disk to work with.  NFS does not handle that, so if you place the index on an NFS mount, the best case is that it runs like a no-legged dog, and the worst case is that your index gradually corrupts as updates fail.

However.  It is only the index that has this problem.  You can safely locate the attachments on an NFS share.  It may still be a bit slow if you have large attachments, but it won't fail.  (The other caveat here is that your attachments must be read-only to all users except confluence - only the Confluence server should have write access)
