Problem with "phantom" drafts

(PhantomDrafts.txt) We're running Confluence 4.2.13, and we have a problem whereby lots of Drafts are being created with no Creator, and no reference source page or title. The uploaded CSV file contains the records from the Content table in the database that show this problem.

The drafts have BodyContent and also attachments, if the source page had attachments. As can be seen in the CSV file many of these drafts are created over a short period of time. This results in the <Confluence Home>\attachments folder getting big very quickly with many attachment copies.

What could be causing this behaviour?

I would suspect a web spider if your instance is publicly accessible and you have anonymous rights for editing.

If this is not the case, I would enable user access logging and see what happens based on the logs.
