REST API: Search call only brings back the end of the excerpt and not beginning.

I want to build a search feature identical to the 'Search for a solution' one in Confluence. Which brings back a Title and an excerpt. But in my api call the excerpt I receive is different. I get back an excerpt that starts mid sentence. 

How can I get back a similar excerpt like the one on the Confluence site?
