3rd Party Analytics

Will Baltazar July 21, 2021

Hello there! I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions with a dilemma that I have. I'm tasked with developing an internal Knowledge Base for my segment of business. I have been using Refined and Refined Toolkit for Cloud to develop a prototype Knowledge Base in Confluence Cloud. The instructional material is entered in Confluence Spaces and the app is used to provide the User Interface. The prototype has turned out great, but the app does not have the analytic features that Confluence already has. In other words,…

  • it doesn’t provide the number of page views
  • the users that viewed
  • when pages were viewed
  • search terms used, when, and how many times

I’ve performed an extensive search within the Atlassian Marketplace and don’t see options. I’ve also searched through Google and will continue to do so. Is there a service, widget, 3rd-Party App, or anything that anyone can suggest that might work well in my situation? I’m hesitant to refer to the services of a consultant due to costs and was hoping there is something available that might be just an easy install or easy integration.

Better Content Archiving also provides analytics! Our implementation is based on the internal events fired by the Atlassian platform when someone views or edits a page or blog post.

Because those events are fired regardless of how the page is presented, our analytics should work with any theme or "space decoration", including Refined. (You can try if it works in your site for free, of course.)

Seems so obvious I kind of hesitate to suggest it but Confluence Cloud Premium would appear to do everything you need.

It's slightly limiting for my use-case as the majority of folk using my knowledge base aren't logged in. That means I'm unable to differentiate between internal users and external users. Annoying because - anecdotally - they search the knowledge base very differently. But it's still a good set of analytics.

The blog post here gives a summary.

I’m guessing that your app accessed the Confluence content using the REST APIs rather than normal page views, and that REST API content views do not trigger the same Confluence analytics as the standard Confluence app or as in a browser.
