Ability to link text to an attachment in editor

Niels de Vries May 14, 2025

Dear All,

The ability to insert a file as text link, adjust the name length, without:

-any additional icons

-altered background

-display of file type

still seems to be limited to by attaching the file to the page with the add file macro. Remove it the respective link as it is (sometimes) not the desired form. Open attachements, copy link address from the file and paste it in with the link macro. However, this is an uncessary difficult way to get what you want. The old editor had an easy functionallty to accomodate this. When will that be added again to the current editor?

This issue has been raised in the past (multiple years ago) and stated it as resolved. However, as far as I understand this can only be done with difficult time consuming way.

These things make it harder to defend the usage of confluence and build the support of the entire team to use confluence more.

With kind regards,

Niels

@Niels de Vries it sounds like you have some needs around attachments. This isn't an exact reply to your questions but I have a feeling you might find our app Attachment Manager by Easy Apps useful. A bunch of things you can do to deal with the plethora of attachments that make up Confluence.

@Niels de Vries Welcome to the Atlassian Community.

To save yourself as few steps, you can:

  1. Open the Attachments page
  2. Upload the file there
  3. Copy the link while you're there
  4. View the page and insert the link

If you want to link to a file without attaching it to the page, there are ways to do that, but they generally require permissions to the file for anyone who might click the link. See https://support.atlassian.com/confluence-cloud/docs/insert-links-and-anchors/

Thanks. I will share this with the team. Not the preferred easy way in we used to enjoy in the old editor, but better than what is applied now / what I stated earlier.
