Add Connect app user to groups

I am developing a Connect app and need to access all the pages in the Confluence spaces for the account. However, by default, the app only has access to public pages (I am using JWT for authentication) - I am guessing this is because the app user atlassian creates for the app does not have higher permissions.

I cannot however find a way to add the app user to any groups, or to give it higher permissions. 

Is there a way to do this ? If not, how can I manage to access all pages in the space ?
