I want to know, how does one add a new space in Confluence?
With an admin account, click create space.

Use "create space". I think you need to have a read of https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/DOC/Getting+Started+as+Confluence+Administrator

Well your instance must have an IP address or domain, even if it's just "localhost:8090". If it is that, just go to http://localhost:8090/spaces/createspace-start.action
