Analytics & Anonymous Users

Rob Hearne August 9, 2023

We will launch Data Centre with anonymous users. Will there be a breakdown in Analytics - Users of views per page or will all anonymous users metrics be aggregated, e.g. will it be Solution A or Solution B?

Solution A

Name:                       Created - Updated - Comments - Views

Anonymous_User 1:       0               0              10                100

Anonymous_User 2:       0               0              20                200

Solution B

Or will it be aggregated:

Name:                       Created - Updated - Comments - Views

Anonymous_User :       0               0              30                300

As answered here

Hello Rob,

They will be aggregated because we are talking about anonymous users. Meaning there is no information tracked to distinguish if all the views happened by only one or several anonymous users.

If you want to distinguish visitors, you probably need to use Google Analytics. Google gets more data from visitors (IP address, browser etc) and can distinguish between new visitors and returning visitors. The disadvantage with GA is that you can identify the logged-in Confluence users or only with great difficulty if the user ID is passed on during tracking.

Best regards,
Mattia
