Hi everyone,
I know this is a bit of a long shot, but I’m hoping someone out there might have some insight.
We’re currently running Confluence Server, fully aware that it's now unsupported. Our license has reached its user limit, and we’re in a bind—we're not able to migrate to Confluence Cloud at this point due to internal constraints, but we do have a plan to move to SharePoint in the near future.
In the meantime, we’re looking for any way to temporarily increase our license count just to get by. We understand that Atlassian is no longer selling new licenses or increasing user tiers for Server, but I'm wondering if anyone has come across a creative workaround or short-term solution—anything that helped bridge the gap until a full migration was possible.
Appreciate any thoughts or experiences others might be willing to share. Thanks in advance!
Hi Viet,
If you are open to using a plugin to solve this issue, take a look at this > https://marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/1228703/intelligent-user-manager-ium-for-confluence?hosting=datacenter&tab=overview it will solve your problem.
All the best
Hi Viet,
You're right — Atlassian officially stopped selling new licenses or increasing user tiers for Confluence Server since support ended. Unfortunately, this leaves very limited short-term options.
However, a few things you might consider:
1. User Auditing: Do a quick audit of inactive users. Disabling or removing accounts that haven't logged in for a while can help you free up licenses without needing to expand.
2. Read-Only Access: If some users only need to view content, consider setting up a shared read-only Confluence PDF or static export using tools like Scroll PDF Exporter, until you complete your SharePoint migration.
3. Temporary Workaround: Some organizations have set up a second internal Confluence Data Center trial (if your company qualifies) to buy you time for migration prep. It’s not a long-term solution but can help in transition.
4. Talk to an Atlassian Partner: Even though Atlassian no longer issues Server licenses, verified partners sometimes have creative or transitional solutions — especially if you're migrating.
Wishing you the best with your migration plans. Hope this helps!
