Any alternative to the unavailable anchor macro?

Deleted user July 23, 2019

Hi,

I'm new to confluence and I noticed the anchor macro is currently unavailable.

I was wondering if there is any alternative or other way of achieving a similar function to the anchor macro? Thanks in advance.

Hi @Ruka To

First of all there must be a configuration of your instance which disabled the anchor macro because as a default it is available on confluence server in all 6.x versions. So maybe your confluence admin can solve the availability problem for you.

If this doesn't work out there are in my opinion two ways you could go ahead:

  1. With anchors you are able to link to a specific part of a page. Your could emulate this functionality by adding white colored headings and adding links to this headings.

    Documentation:
Choose Link > Advanced then enter the heading in one of the formats below. Heading text is case sensitive and must be entered without spaces.
For a heading on this page: #MyHeading.
For a heading on another page in this space: Page Name#MyHeading.
For a heading on another page in another space: spacekey:Page Name#MyHeading.
Be aware that these links will break if you edit the heading text.
  2. Just break your content in several confluence pages. This will make the use of anchors unneccesary and with good naming will make your content easier to find in the global search (because side headings appear in the quick search and headings don't).
If you want one coherent document as a result you can also assemble the page parts by the include-page macro on one overview page which has all contents. This approach combines searchability and convenience of reading. You can then just link to the page with the content you are searching for.
If you look closely at the atlassian documentation you see that this is their approach to documantation.

I hope this helps you. Best of luck and hopefully fun with confluence!

Thanks Mario for your ideas! I like the second approach a lot.
