Automatically adding a reference to tasks - perhaps by creating a Jira issue in Confluence?

Rob Powell March 18, 2021

Hi everyone,

I am trying to add a unique reference of some kind to tasks in confluence.  The //Action Item macro doesn't have any options for this.  Is there a way?  It's so I can more easily reference actions when I use the //Task Report macro in other pages.

One method I thought of was, instead of using //action item to instead use //jira and create an issue - that way I get an automatic reference.  But then in my report on another page using //jira issue filter I need a label in those issues so I don't get all of them.  I was using the filter 'action' just to draw them out as meeting actions.  Makes it easier to run weekly progress meetings.  The problem is the //jira macro when creating an issue in confluence doesn't appear to allow me to add a label, and also a column from the kanban.

Does anyone have either a better solution, or know how I can add the label and column name in the //jira macro when creating an issue?  I don't really want to then have to go into Jira and pick out all the actions from the last meeting and add labels and shift them to another column manually if possible.

Thanks in advance

Rob

Hello there @Rob Powell!

That is a interesting requirement you presented. Tasks, or Action items, are a simple way to keep track of things that we need done. Depending on what you want to achieve, you can filter based on:

  1. assignee
  2. status
  3. label
  4. creator
  5. created after

If what you need to select are the tasks from a previous meeting only, you can use use labels for that. The easiest way would be to use a label that describes the meeting date, such as 01011990 (Day/Month/Year format) and then filter by that.

If you want to show all the tasks from previous meetings, you can use a mix of labels and the created after field.Say you need all the tasks from 01/01/2020 onward but only for "Management Meetings" tasks. We can create a label named management-meeting and add it to all the pages that fit this.

In the Task report macro, you can filter out based on "Created After" and the "Label" field. Currently, we can not single out a specific task, but rather a group that fits a description.

For more information on our Task Report macro, you can check here:

If you still want to follow through with the Jira ticket approach, I can tell you that you will need to interact with Jira to add more details to the ticket as needed.
