Backup confluence database without confluence running

Natasha Moffat May 10, 2017

Our confluence service crashed with a "service name invalid" error, just before we were planning to change a bunch of ips and network configurations. We uninstalled confluence and began installing it with our existing jdbc db.

We have the confluence PostgreSQL database, but the confluence installer wants to overwrite the existing data. How can we preseve our confluence spaces and pages?

I imagine that creating a dump of certain confluence db tables but not all confluence db tables, then overwriting the data with the installer, then applying the dump to the db could do the trick, but that sounds dangerous. Any tips?

Hi Natasha!

You can import specific pages from a database dump. Basically, you'll need to extract the content of a page, then import it on a new instance using the Source Editor. You can check more details about the steps to do so on this documentation: How to Recover Page Content from the Database and Import Using Source Editor.

I hope it helps!
