We recently started to use Confluence internally and loving it. It has allowed us to share knowledge like never before and better yet we can then find it afterward. Yea J.

To understand our next requirement let me explain a little on what we do.

We implement a software solutions for our clients. These are not small implementations and can take a team of people from both our organisation and from our clients.

There are many different facets to these implementations, such as, IT infrastructure and set up, software installation, workshops, training, testing, and so on.

To aid the communication between us and our clients we are looking at using Confluence to create an implementation/project management site where we can all communicate and store key data.
The issue here is that the ‘we’ includes out clients.

My theory was that we could create a space specifically for each client. Then grant out clients permissions to this space and not our internal ones.

So I guess what I am asking is…

  • Do people agree that this would be the best way to go about it?
  • Can anyone share any learnings where they have had to do a similar thing?
  • Can you have someone login and land directly on a space (this would avoid the need to teach them about the Dashboard and they would land directly in the area of importance to them)?

If you watch to grant access to third party - you should remove the group that has access permission to confluence from all existing spaces and from default settings for new space. This practice is common, so you are moving in the right direction. The dashboard is not a problem because your clients will see only one their space on the dashboard. The welcome message on the dashboard is the same, so either put something common either write or order plugin with needed functionality

Does anyone have Confluence and sue it internally and then give access to a 3rd party (e.g. their client)?

How do you control things like the welcome message being different for them to your internal users?
