Is it possible to upload an image that I can display in multiple places in such a way that if I want to update the image it automatically updates in all places it is used?

Yes, that's no problem. You can find media from other pages using the 'Insert Media' function in Confluence, or you can simply Copy + Paste from page to page as well.

If I am creating a single documentation space, I generally have a page called 'Includes' or 'Assets' and link the common assets under that area. Then this content can be linked out to other pages and managed in one spot.
