Can I change the display of events back to the old calendar design?

Anja Cäsar March 8, 2021

Hi All,

so far we were quite happy with the calendar we knew from confluence server version.

All events were stacked under each other, no overlapping, names of persons were readable, etc. See picture 1.

Now after migrating into confluence cloud a few weeks ago, the calendar changed overnight into a horrible mess were no overview is possible. Events overlap each other, or are not shown at all and only hinted at with "and 6 others". See picture 2.  It rather looks like the calendar on an Ipad or outlook than anything else. The few things I can change bring no help at all.

is there a secret way to change the set-up back to its old self?

Thanks a lot, Anjacalendar 01.jpgcalendar 02.jpg

@Andrew Kendris,

Changing the view to Month instead of Week won't address @Anja Cäsar's (and my) issue.

The previous calendar UI had two significant advantages over this redesigned UI:

1. It did not collapse events to a single line.
2. It did not collapse days to three rows of events "plus X more".

This allowed us to immediately see who was involved in what events when, simply by looking at the calendar page. To accomplish the same feat now, you have to click on every single event on a given day just to see what it is and who's involved.

Here's an example of what we see now:

Confluence Calendar Day.png

This is almost entirely useless. I don't know who was sick and I don't know what the other events on this date were (and who's involved in them) -- all things I knew at a glance in the old UI. Now multiply that by the 35 days visible in the Month view. I shouldn't have to click on every day and then click on every event within that day to see basic information about an event.

The Confluence devs seem to have prioritized making the calendar look pretty and clean over actually being useful. This UI update is admittedly very slick, but it's terrible UX.

Please advise how to revert to the old view or where to file a complaint with someone to get it back, because this new design is a huge step backwards in terms of usability.

I understand further what the issue is and thank you @Remington Jones for sharing additional context.

Unfortunately I can't assist with UI changes and, to my knowledge, there isn't a way of reverting back to the old UI since the original add-on is now part of the premium service.

However, you can file feedback from within your Atlassian instance under Help --> Help us Improve and an Atlassian Support resource will connect with you for next steps.

The same also here. I tottaly agree with Jones, new UI is quite useless as you have to click on every single day to see all planned actions. There is no way to have all informations visible on the main page as before.

Hello @Anja Cäsar

It looks like from the two screenshots you shared, that you are showing two different views.  The top screenshot (old version) is in month view while the bottom screenshot (new view) is in week view.

You should be able to change that view by way of the dropdown at the top right.
