We had an interesting scenario today where a couple users needed access to a space. The space admin was unavailable for a while so we tried to give them permissions through a global admin but was unable to do it. This concerns me that if the space admin had say been on holidays for an extended period of time there would be no way to change the permissions of that space without their account. We have 3 global admins and I would have expected that they could change the permissions of any space even if not shared with them but this doesn't appear to be the case from my searching. Can anyone tell me if there is a way to do it that I just haven't discovered yet?
Confluence administrators aren't necessarily space administrators. In order for them to be a space admin, they must belong to a group which has space admin and view permission for the space, or their username must be specifically granted space admin and view permission for the space. People with the System Administrator global permission can choose to grant themselves space admin permissions for any space.
Click the cog wheel --> General Configuration --> Space Permissions. Locate the space in the Individual Spaces list and choose Recover Permissions.
