Can't I create a list of Status

corry casler September 20, 2017

Can't I create a list of Status'?

e.g. Green=IN PROGRESS, Blue=COMPLETE, Red=CANCELLED?

Unless I'm missing something, it seems nutty that I have to manually type the status and choose the color manually every time a status changes.

Any help is appreciated.

Hi Corry,

I think you can try the Handy Macros add-on. It has a Handy Status macro that allows you to create a set of interactively switchable statuses. The add-on also has a lot of other features. You can try it right now, here is a link to the demo instance.

Hi Corry,

That particular macro does require you to type in the title and select a color.

If you need to display a Jira issue status, then I would recommend using the Jira issues Macro. This will display the status in the macro and it will change according to the issue's current status.

Let me know if you have any questions about that!

Kind Regards,
Shannon

Thanks Shannon.

I'm not using Jira but hope this feature makes it into a Confluence update. Even entering Edit mode to change the status seems odd to me.

Hi Corry,

The Status Macro is more of a label that you can use in Confluence, so it's not just used for status, but things such as priority, etc.

What kind of thing are you using it for on your instance? Do you mean for example if you check off the box for a task you need it to automatically change?

We don't have plans to change the behavior of this macro in the near future, but if you can let me know how exactly you're using it I can submit a feature request to the team.

Kind Regards,
Shannon

Hi Shannon.

I'm using it as a status for projects the team is working on. I don't expect any automated behavior other than to be able to click on the status and choose from a selection of statuses that I've created. e.g. Green=ACTIVE, Blue=COMPLETE, Red=CANCELLED.

Thanks!

Hi Corry,

Thank you for your explanation.

I've searched and it looks like this feature has been suggested, but we do not have plans to implement it:

I suggest you have a look at the add-on that Roman suggested; perhaps it could work for you?

Kind Regards,
Shannon

The Handy Macros add-in installation instructions says:

  • Open your Atlassian application and log in.
  • Navigate to the administration section. You may need to log in again (we're super secure).
  • Choose "Add-Ons", then navigate to "Manage Add-Ons" (the "Install" section in older versions).
  • Click the "Upload Add-On" link and upload this file.

But there is no "Upload Add-On" link on the Manage add-ons admin page.

Any help is appreciated.

Hi Corry,

You are using Confluence Cloud and Handy Macros add-on is for Confluence Server only. So you can't install it.

Hi Corry,

What Andrey says is correct; seems that the developer hasn't made this add-on available for Cloud users.

There are a few more task-related add-ons that are available for Cloud that you could have a look at. I'm not familiar with them so I do not know if they will provide the functionality you need, but they're worth trying out.
