Can't connect to database after upgrading from 7.14.0 to 7.14.1

I'm not able to connect to my database and I can't figure out what could be the problem. I made a backup of the confluence.cfg.xml file and restored it, but it doesn't seem like that's the cause.

com.mysql.jdbc.exceptions.jdbc4.CommunicationsException: Communications link failure

The above error was found in the catalina.out file.

After enabling collaborative editing, you cannot edit. Do you have such a problem? HTTPS is turned on, but HTTP is not turned on, what should be done to make the page open for collaborative editing and edit

This error really does mean "I can't talk to the database".  There may be more later down the error that might give you more information, but basically check all your settings for the database are valid and that the machines can talk to each other properly.
