Can you suppress the message from excerpt macro for unauthorized viewers?

Using Confluence 4.2.12.

I have an excerpt that I include on a page that is viewable by two groups, X & Y. However, via permissions I have restricted viewing of the excerpt to group X. I notice when group Y tries to view the page containing the excerpt, instead of simply suppressing the excerpt, the following message is displayed (image attached):

The page [page name] does not exist.

Is there any way to suppress this message? Or is there a better approach to 'hiding' content based on group permissions?

Hallo Ken

The "Visibility" plugin can show or hide content based on user groups:
https://marketplace.atlassian.com/plugins/net.customware.confluence.plugin.visibility
The caveat is that the content is still accessible, as described on the above plugin page.

You could use the Visibility plugin in combination with your existing excerpt inclusions. The Visibility macro would hide the ugly error message, while the inclusion does the job of hiding the sensitive content.

Coming at the problem from the other side: it may be possible to hide the error message via CSS. You can add CSS to your spaces, as described in the documentation:
https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/DOC/Styling+Confluence+with+CSS

I don't know the specific code you'd need, if it is possible. Maybe someone else on this forum can help with that.

I hope this helps. :)

Cheers, Sarah

Lovely, Sarah! I'll urge our admin to install this plug-in next week and hopefully it'll resolve the issue with the messaging! Many thanks for the suggestion!!
