I am running Confluence on localhost and whenever I try to get it working it takes me to a page the says

Setup: We can't locate your Confluence home directory.

I have already went into the confluence.init.properties file to specify my home directory and still have found no success. Looking for suggestions on what else I can try.

Check that

  • The home directory exists
  • The home directory is not inside the install directory (and that the install directory is not inside the home directory)
  • The home directory and all its contents are owned by the user running Confluence
  • The user running Confluence has permissions for RWX across all files in there
  • You have got the right path in the properties file (That's my usual mistake, getting the wrong name in there)

Are your installation and home directories separate?  They need to be separate.

i.e.

Installation directory = C:\Atlassian\Confluence

Home Directory = C:\Atlassian\ApplicationData\Confluence
