We've recently installed Confluence and are testing setup and permissions, so this is basically a clean install. I've created several test spaces. in each case, I can access the space from the "Spaces" dropdown menu and from the "Site Spaces" list on the left when viewing the main Confluence page. However, attempts to access any space via the Space Directory results in a "cannot connect to server" error.
This is happening 100% of the time and is happening in both Firefox and Chrome. Have not tried other browsers.
You need to ensure your gerenal configurtion is setup correctly. You should have your internal or external site listed along with ports.
Take a look at the following:
https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/DOC/Configuring+the+Server+Base+URL
It may need to be set to " http://yourserverurl.com:8090"
