Folks,
My temp folder in the Confluence install directory is 17.7GB, is it safe to manually delete all the entries?
It seems to be related to powerpoint indexing.
Thanks
Conor
Hi,
I found a ticket related to this and got an answer so closing this out.
Thanks
Conor

Thanks for getting in touch, apologies for not being in touch sooner. Once you're re-index is complete those temp files can be safely removed. We're currently working on this and should have a better fix in place in a future release of Confluence.

That's great, it's does affect the latest Confluence version as well when running on Windows, but the severity is determined on how many PowerPoint (.pptx) files which are being indexed. This might be small for a lot of users, but when using an add-on like Infinidex, this issue can escalate very fast.
All the best,
Martin

Hi
Thanks for the feedback, we have changed a lot of things (infrastructure & upgrades) since I logged this and the issue has improved. But we will keep this in mind if it becomes an issue.
Thanks again

Hi.
Some of our Infinidex customers have experienced this file flood from the bundled Office Connector add-on in Confluence. Unfortunately Atlassian hasn't fixed this yet.
We have successfully created a patch to mitigate the issue, and have confirmed that it does indeed stop the temporary files from flooding the harddrive.
If you would like us to, we can provide you with the patch for free (you assume full responsibility for this). If you would like to, we can also assist you with patching Confluence.

It should be safe yes. You should also be able to schedule jobs to remove files regularly.

The reason I asked is because the job specfically says "This does not include the temp directory located in the confluence install directory." and I wanted to be sure it was safe to manually remove the files in the temp directory located in the confluence install directory.
Thanks

Maybe I'm just not understanding.
According to this: https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/CONF50/Confluence+Installation+Directory
Confluence shouldn't be storing any information in the Confluence Install (and install temp) directory, this was where files were unzipped for installation. This would imply that you could delete them with no issue.
Furthermore, can you show me where it says
"This does not include the temp directory located in the confluence install directory."

In the link you sent me intiailly there is a section called types of jobs, which lists the jobs that exist by default in Confluence and there is a job called Clean Temporary Directory and it includes this in the description.
I also found this which is exactly the issue https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONF-33898. I have turned off indexing of PPT but still need to clear the folder if safe.

I do not see or am able to find any offical answers. My previous statement of,
Confluence shouldn't be storing any information in the Confluence Install (and install temp) directory, this was where files were unzipped for installation. This would imply that you could delete them with no issue.
I believe is still valid. I would backup the directory and delete it while Confluence is down. Bring it back up and verify that everything works fine.
