Creating User Account on Wiki

Micheal Shallop May 21, 2013

I have created a read-only account for our company wiki - and assigned it to a unique group. I have set the space permissions such that the new account (and the group) can only view the specified space on the wiki, add comments and blog. Nothing else. The account, and the group do not have access to any other spaces.

The group only has the one member and that's the new user.

When I login under that account, first it takes me to the jira dashboard - which is disconcerting because the users should not even be exposed to jira. When the account was created, the account was explicitly granted access to only confluence.

So, when I click on the wiki (confluence) it takes me to the Admin/Security page - I can navigate anywhere off this page.

All I want is for this user to log, and be taken to a specific space in the wiki. No jira - no dashboard. Just the wiki space.

Is this possible?

thanks!

Hi Micheal,

I would recommend two solutions to this problem.

To resolve the permissioning I would navigate to https://<instance>/secure/admin/user/ApplicationAccessConfig!default.jspa to make sure the user has not accidentally been granted permission to the JIRA instance.

To set a users homepage, while in the Confluence space, select the profile picture when signed into the account then 'Settings' >> 'Edit'. You will be able to update the 'Site Homepage' to any page the user is permissioned to view. There is also this great guide which outlines this process: https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/DOC/Choosing+your+Home+Page

You'll always see the dashboard for OnDemand if you also have JIRA. The download version doesn't have these problems, but they are separate applications. You shouldn't be getting the other errors though. Definitely contact Atlassian support.

Remember that user management is handled separately for both products (jira vs. confluence). From a cursory read, sounds like your user's acct has access to the confluence space, so those permissions are good. Go to the jira project under 'Roles' and assure he is not listed nor included in any groups there.
