Custom layouts not working in Confluence

I've downloaded and installed the test version of Confluence. In the site admin, the Default theme is selected. When I edit the Layouts (i.e. create custom layouts), they have no effect no matter what I do. What am I missing?

If you are using the Demonstration space that ships with Confluence, then it is not using the site-wide default theme, instead it has a space-level theme applied. This will be overriding the custom layouts.

To work around this, you can either:

• Change the Demonstration space to use the default theme, see https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/DOC/Applying+a+Theme+to+a+Space
• Create a brand new space
