Default for restricting pages

Tom Wolff (Admin) November 29, 2012

We have a few users that have their new pages edit-restricted to themselves by default. It is very annoying to them. I can't find anyway to make this happen on purpose, so I can't see how to keep it from happening for them. We would all appreciate figuring out how to enable them to make unrestricted new pages by default. Thanks.

You're absolutely positive that these users are reading the page restrictions dialog incorrectly? I know I've had a few users who thought that it was "Restrict viewing of this page FROM" instead of what it actually says: "Restrict viewing of this page TO".

It is also impossible to restrict viewing or editing of a page from yourself. It will automatically add your name if you try and add someone else's without adding yourself so you don't lock yourself out.

I suggest you to put some users as restricted and then remove them from the restriction, and then try to fush the cache Browse > Confluence Admin > Cache Statistics > Flush all.

I have no idea what the Cache Statistics has to do with my issue. I found https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/CONF42/Cache+Statistics and then decided there was no harm in "flush all." I'll just have to see if my users have the same problem. Thanks for the suggestion.

Make a seperate space and allow only those people to edit the page in that space. I think that that is the most workable solution.

I guess I didn't make my question clear. The user does NOT want his pages restricted by default. They just are for any page he creates. Maybe that makes no sense, but he and one other user have been plagued by this situation. Everyone else just creates unrestrictee pages by default in that space or others. It is very odd and annoying. How could this be?
