Disabling confluence emails for disabled user

At our company, when someone leaves, their email is generally forwarded to someone else. We disable them in Jira by removing them from all groups and removing their application access to Jira and Confluence.

But it seems this doesn't stop Confluence from sending out Recommended emails per it's schedule to that user.

I worked around it by re-enabling the user temporarily, going to their Confluence profile and disabling all the notifications, then disabling all the user again.

But it doesn't make sense to me why a disabled user would still be getting emails.

Am I missing something?

Well, this seems to have people stumped or perhaps no one else has run into it. And now I'm getting harassing emails that I should do something about my own un-answered question.

So I'll just answer it with the following WORKAROUND mentioned previously:

Temporarily re-enable the disabled user, disable all the email notifications in their Confluence profile, then disable the user again.

This does appear to have resolved the issue.

If we are lower then version 4.2.5 of Confluence then I believe we are hittting the following bug.

Customers report that the recommended updates email goes to ALL LDAP users whether logged in or not

Which encompasses disabled users as well.

We're running OnDemand so Jira is at 6.1. About Confluence reports version at 5.3
