Does documentation confluence workspace has versioning function

na liu February 19, 2017

We want to use documentation theme workspace in confluence page to store our outbounding documents, like user guide, release notes, etc.

Is there versioning function in this type of confluence workspace since we want to maintain our docs for V1.0, V1.1, V1.2 etc. And also we want to maintain the draft version of V1.0, V1.1...

Thanks

Take a look at how Atlassian themselves do this:

https://confluence.atlassian.com/spacedirectory/view.action

(If you click on "Confluence" under the CATEGORIES in the left-hand panel, you can see that they have a space per major version of Confluence).

I would recommend something like the Copy Space for Confluence as an easy way to create each version from a previous version.

Two parts to this answer

Each time you save a new version of a Confluence page, the old page is archived but any link to the page itself is always to the latest version.  You can see, compare and restore previous versions via the Ellipsis (three dot icon) > Page History

Similarly for attachments, every time you upload a new version of an attachment ... WITH THE EXACT SAME FILE NAME (no prefixes, suffixes, initials, date or "v" number) ... the old version is archived, but is still able to be seen via the paper clip icon, or the Ellipsis >Attachments.  The HUGE advantage of this is any link on the main page is ALWAYS to the latest version

Thanks for your answer.

Take one page for example:

If I want to check the difference between current version and V.7, I click into V. 7, and see there's an attachment for the project plan.

But when I want to click it and open it, there's no response.

So how can I open the old version attachments?

Thanks.

OK - you are looking at the <<Page History>>

To see the attachment versions, from the current page, click the Ellipsis then <<Attachments>> or just click the paper clip.  You now have a list of the attachments - click the ">" chevron to the left of the file name to see the previous versions of the attachment
