I submitted a support request, but am told this is how the application is supposed to work which just doesn't make sense so me.
We use the meeting template and use mentions to indicate attendees and tasks.
When we save the page, the mentions receive an email notification - that is good.
However, we moved the page to a different location (we were archiving last year's weekly meeting notes and moving them to our archived space).
When we moved the page (didn't make any edits), every mention on every page received an email notification that they had a task assigned by me (I was the one who did the move).
How is this by design and expected functionality? We move pages around alot to archive, reorganize, etc. We also starting using mentions alot because we are using the task and attendee recommended functionality. Why would the system resend emails for all mentions on a page just because it is moved? Will it do that if we edit the page, but don't make a change to a mention?
This was embarrassing because we just spammed not only our employees but our customers as these are customer minutes.
Can someone confirm that this is what is really expected to happen?
Atlassian confirmed that this was a bug. The other impact that occurs is that the user that the task is associated with receives a notification that another task has been assigned and that the page contains multiple tasks for you - even though there is only one. When you navigate to your Task Report, there are duplicate entries - every time you move the page, another task is created and another email is sent and another inbox notification is generated.
The bug report is here for those who want to vote: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONF-33796
