Embedded images are not shown in some browsers

I have embedded some screenshots that are stored as PNG files on our SharePoint server into a Confluence page. Some colleagues see the images on the Confluence page, some don't. Regardless of the Web browser used.

On my machine, I see them in 2 browsers (Chrome and Edge) but not in Opera. So it must be some browser thingy.

Does anyone know what the problem is and how to overcome it?

Thanks in advance!

Hello Faros65 ,

I just have two quick wild guesses.

1. Do the colleagues have access to the Sharepoint folder and images on it?

2. Sometime I copied images with copy and paste into a page and it just showed up because I had the images in my browser cache (don't know what happened). Maybe verify with cleared cache what the result is on your computer.

Just my 2 Cents.

Let me know what happens.

Cheers,

Lars

Hello Lars,

1. Yes, all have at least read access to the SharePoint folder. I myself have full access and only see the images in 2 of 3 browsers I have.

BTW: I have now manually disabled Tracking and Ads for the page in the third browser (in case this is a privacy settings issue) but this did not change anything.

2. The images are not copied, they are embedded as URLs, And it changes nothing when I clear the cache or view it in a private tab/window,

Any other idea?

this is interesting. Not sure if I can come up with a quick diagnose or  have smart ideas. But just to approach the problem and to narrow down the problem.

What kind of URL is it?

  • like https:///
  • or file:\\\
  • .....

And did you try to see the images (through the link) in a browser? Do the images appear?

Also do you use the same user-management system for Sharepoint and Confluence? Sometimes this gives me an headache.

I am more a novice when it comes to Sharepoint but are there any extra settings for images  or different types of images. Also if you try to use SVG it doesn't work in Confluence.

I hope I could give you some more ideas where to look for the problem. Sorry I couldn't help you more.

Cheers,

Lars

Hello Lars,

to answer your questions:

- The links are HTTPS links. Actually I used the "Copy link" function in SharePoint and pasted this generated link into Confluence.

- If the people who do not see the image on the Confluence page copy the link and paste it into a new browser tab of the same browser, the image _is_ displayed for them.

- The SharePoint uses the same user management as Confluence.

- The images are almost all PNG (a small number JPGs), not SVG.

Any further help appreciated.

Hello Faros65,

sorry for the delayed answer(didn't see your response) not sure you could fix. I had an idea I like to share with you. It is a little bit weird (I know) but is it possible that on your sharepoint link is some java script involved and Confluene denied to use it? Do you have access to the Confluence log maybe there is a chance to see something there.

Path to the standard log file.

/var/atlassian/application-data/confluence/log/atlassian-confluence.log

Do other weblinks (https) work with Conflunence?

Cheers,

Lars
